History of Teatro Tomasino
How a student theater guild at the University of Santo Tomas grew from its founding years into later productions.
Founding and first steps
The original site dates the founding of Teatro Tomasino to September 17, 1977. It says 25 students at the University of Santo Tomas established the guild under Prof. Myrna Hilario and Prof. Piedad Guinto.
Its history also describes formal workshops and an early performance of Orlando Nadres' And Awit na Hindi Matapos-tapos, directed by Maryo J. Delos Reyes. The source places those workshops on April 2, 1977, before the stated founding date; the chronology needs confirmation from the guild.
Productions and people
The original account names alumni and practitioners including John “Sweet” Lapus, Erick Salud, Don Cuaresma, Arnold Clavio, Roxy Liquigan, Jose Victor Torres, Malou Crisologo, and Wenn Deramas.
It also recalls Dos Por Dos, directed by Erick Salud; Tagumpay at Trahedya, directed by Jose Victor Z. Torres; and a stage adaptation of Ricky Lee's Para Kay B, directed by alumnus Carlos A. Buendia.
This page summarizes historical text from the original Teatro Tomasino website. Relative dates in that text have been removed because they no longer describe the present.
